Week 2

Week 2

Well last Thursday, while Mom was here, I took that first step.

The one famed in song and story. I went for help. I started with Weight Watchers.

I went for my second meeting tonight - after the last week of Christmas Dinner and really not having done anything. The only thing really being that we hardly ate out anywhere. But still with Christmas Dinner, and all the gluttony that goes with it I was fully prepared to have gained.

My Starting weight was 511.2

As of 5:30 pm EDT 12-27-07 I am now at 510.00

I am actually very excited about this and reading through the material it looks like one of the only programs I have ever seen that I feel like I can do because I get to eat. It just forces me to think differently about WHAT I eat.

I know I have whined about this for a long time. And it has been a driving negative factor for me for even longer. Something that Some who have known me longer know more so. To see even this little bit of improvement so soon I am just floored.

My New Years Resolution is that "I'm Worth It" not just in weight loss but in life. I am trying very hard to make the changes finally that I have whined and put off for far to long. And tell myself that I'm Worth It for me. In all things.

My 1st Target loss is 51.1 lbs. I would like to reach that goal but sometime around May or June. But if I don't then so be it, any loss is improvement. My Lifetime Goal is to loose approx 200-250 lbs. And I would like to see the 1st 100 gone by this time next year.

I Don't know if I will keep up posting this on here or not but Right now it seems like it will be an added drive for me to work hard at this and to hold myself accountable to me and not let me weasel out of it.

So.... here goes everything!

Polar RS300X SD Heart Rate Monitor Watch with S1 Foot Pod (Black)

Polar RS300X SD Heart Rate Monitor Watch with S1 Foot Pod (Black)

The RS300X combines these three to give you a true understanding of the effort you put in. And on top, all the essential heart rate features come along RS300X, on the run and online. Measures your heart rate combined with speed and distance. Helps you to train at the right intensity with personal training zones. Displays how many calories you've burned. Tracks your latest 16 training sessions and your last 16 weeks of training.

A smart, intuitive training computer for runners and cross-training athletes, the Polar RS300X SD wrist heart rate monitor helps you to train at the right intensity with personal training zones. The RS300X SD comes with Polar's S1 foot pod, which accurately measures your running speed/pace and distance. Committed runners will find the most value in the real-time pace and distance measurement of the S1 foot pod. And even though it attaches to your shoe laces, it's so light that you'll forget it's even there, which means it won't affect your running performance.

The RS300X helps you to train at the right intensity with personal training zones.

This RS300X SD comes with the S1 foot pod.
Additionally, the RS300X SD is compatible with the separately available G1 GPS sensor, which is a great choice for those who mix up their training regimen with cycling, inline skating, paddling, mountain biking or hiking. This package comes with the Polar WearLink+ 31 coded transmitter (with changeable battery).

Polar RS300X Models
Basic RS300X
-- black and orange
RS300X SD with S1 foot pod for real-time pace/distance
-- black and orange
RS300X G1 with G1 GPS Sensor for cross-trainers
-- black and orange

The RS300X SD enables athletes to train at the right intensity and improve their performance through core metrics such as heart rate, speed, distance, pace, and calorie burn. Advanced features include Polar's exclusive OwnZone feature for individualized zone training by heart rate or pace, a fitness test, and auto lap splits, which display average heart rate, pace and distance per lap. Athletes can easily review up to 16 past workout files to check their progress and ensure they're staying on track with their fitness or training plan.
Features include:
S1 foot pod is robust, shock and water resistant to handle the most demanding of runs, and changing the battery is simple and effortless
Heart rate displayed as percentage of maximum heart rate, BPM, and average heart rate of total exercise
Tracks your latest 16 training sessions and your last 16 weeks of training
Visual and audible alarm in target zones: Informs you every time your heart rate and/or speed/pace exceeds the upper limit or falls below the lower limit of your target zone during a training session.
Polar OwnIndex Fitness Test calculates aerobic fitness (comparable to maximal oxygen uptake, VO2max) providing a reference to base training intensity and measure improvement.
Polar OwnCal: Shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time e.g. one week, it helps in achieving both short term and long term goals.
Time in Target Zone feature calculates the amount of total training time spent in your personal target zone. You can use this feature together with the Total Exercise Time to determine the effectiveness of your training program.
Number of laps - 99
Watch features: alarm with snooze, dual time zone, stopwatch
Compatible with Polar FlowLink (available separately)
Water resistant to 50 meters
Backlighting, display zoom
Event Countdown Timer: Keeps your motivation high by showing how many days are left before your next running event (e.g., Berlin 23 days).
About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

Cycling

Cycling

The Stanford Cycling Club rides along Cañada Road to Half Moon Bay, CA on May 17, 2008 as part of the Mudball. The Mudball, a semi-annual event, combines cycling, beer, and hill climbs in an unorthodox test of athletic endurance.

I wanted to get a shot of this ride, but I knew that the riders' faces would be in shadows for the duration. That's when I came up with the idea of showing the group from above and back, set against a pleasant background. I drove along the road, found a nice hill with a great view, and waited. And waited. And waited. After an hour, they finally came by.

There's some slight vignetting from the filters that I could have fixed in Photoshop, but I've been avoiding retouching lately to maintain journalistic integrity. I could have cropped it out, but that would have cut into some of the riders.

One other observation: there's more luminance noise than I would have liked. I needed both a deep depth of field and a motion-stopping fast shutter speed, so I used high gain. The riders weren't going quite as fast as I had expected, so I probably could have gotten away with about a stop slower shutter speed, which would have let me use a less-noisy sensitivity setting.

You'll Lose the Baby Weight: (And Other Lies about Pregnancy and Childbirth)

You'll Lose the Baby Weight: (And Other Lies about Pregnancy and Childbirth)

You’ll Lose the Baby Weight is a humorous look at pregnancy and childbirth. The author shares the parts about pregnancy that your doctor doesn’t tell you--like how many times you are asked to pee whether you want to or not, from figuring out if you're pregnant by peeing on a pee stick to every time you go in for your doctor visit. And then there is the time when you are not allowed to pee but are bursting to when you’re five months pregnant and have to drink thirty-two ounces of water for your ultrasound--and it feels like you've drank fifty-five gallons. As she shares stories from her own six pregnancies and births and those of her friends, Dawn cues readers into the important things they need to know, like how they should order their epidural as soon as they see a pink line on the pregnancy test, the unexpected changes your body goes through, and the fact that they will never again sleep through the night uninterrupted. This book even offers advice for fathers-to-be, including a list of things not to do in the delivery room if they don’t want a bedpan thrown at their heads.
With such chapters as "I’m Not a Doctor; I Just Play One on TV" and "Morning Sickness: It Isn’t Just for Breakfast Anymore," each chapter opens with a list of tips--some serious and some not--including things not to be suckered into buying for your baby and the essentials that you really do need. This hilarious book takes readers through nine months of pregnancy and all the accompanying symptoms to labor and delivery and the weeks postpartum. It will have readers doubled over in laughter, as it walks them through pregnancy with sympathetic honesty. While acknowledging that pregnancy is not always easy, the end result of that sweet-smelling, soft baby somehow make it all worth while.

Knit Picks Notes
10/9/08: today I am starting my swatch. because there are so many different versions of this sweater I am going to knit up a few swatches to make sure I know my exact gauge so there isn’t a problem in the future.

10/9/09 PM: swatch is done and I think I am good to go. I used a US 5 for the stockinette sections and US 7 for the lace pattern. It seems to have worked out great, with perfect gauge after blocking. I am taking a chance and will knit the 36. I am more concerned that the 41 will be way to be then the 36 being too small. I am also knitting the ribbing on the sleeve with US 3, because from the looks of most of the sweaters posted the cuffs are very loose and I prefer them to be tight.

10/16/08: finished the second sleeve last night and cast-on for the body. I have decided to do the body all at once instead of in pieces, which has ment that I have had to figure out the adjusted stitch counts. I am currently working up the ribbing. So far I love the pattern and the lace detail. I thought it was going to be a problem changing needles every 12 rows, but so far that hasn’t been a problem. Knock on wood!

10/21/08: after a short break from this project to complete a pair of felted slippers I am back on this project. I just set up the first row of the patterns, and I am now concerned about my decision to knit the body all in one piece because the too cabled fronts will be lace all the way up, where as the back is alternating between lace sections and stockinette sections. I guess I will see how it goes. I might have to just wing it or switch out the needles more often than I had planned.

10/27/08: Slowly working up the body of this sweater. I worked out the kinks with the needle size and working the back in one piece. So far it is going as planned.

11/16/08: This project has been on hold for a few weeks because I was getting ready to go on vacation and it was too bulky to take with me on vacation. It will probably stay on hold untill all the Christmas knitting is completed.

2/9/09: This project is in a temporary time-out. I finished the body, but after seaming up the shoulders I have found it might be a bit small. I want to soak it an block it before I decide if I am going to frog it to make a slightly bigger size. Or maybe I will be motivated to loss the extra weight that I have been wanting to loss for quite some time.

2/11/09: I have blocked the body of this sweater and it stretched quite a bit, glad I decided to go with the 36 instead of the 40. If I was really smart and thought ahead, I would have created a new size 38. The sweater still seems a little too small, but I am going to go ahead and finish it anyway. I know if I can take of just a few pounds it will fit me nicely. I still need to block the sleeves, but that can be done while I am working on the neck band.

3/1/09: this sweater is still in a holding pattern. I have been busy working on some baby gifts, but I hope to finish up this sweater soon.

3/16/09: Oh so close, I finished up the button band yesterday, and now I am just waiting for the sleeves to finish blocking and I will sew it together. I am still worried about the size, but I am cranking up my exercise program so hopefully that will help.

3/17/09: It is finally done. It is a bit tight. I want to block it one more time now that it is all together and hopefully it will stretch just a little bit more. Otherwise, I might have to just gift this sweater to someone. I love this sweater and the yarn and if I can’t get it to fit me I would definitely consider making another one.

3/21/09: as much as I love this sweater, I just don’t think I will be able to wear it because it is still too small. So I gifted it to my friend Valerie, who I know will get some use out if this lovely sweater. I will just have to make myself another larger sweater. I would definitely use the same modifications, other than then sizing. Maybe I will make a tween size.

Bristol Beaufighter

Bristol Beaufighter

often referred to as simply the Beau, was a British long-range heavy fighter modification of the Bristol Aeroplane Company's earlier Beaufort torpedo bomber design. The name Beaufighter is a portmanteau of "Beaufort" and "fighter".
Unlike the Beaufort, the Beaufighter had a long career and served in almost all theatres of war in the Second World War, first as a night fighter, then as a fighter bomber and eventually replacing the Beaufort as a torpedo bomber. A variant was built in Australia by the Department of Aircraft Production (DAP) and was known in Australia as the DAP Beaufighter.
By fighter standards, the Beaufighter Mk.I was rather heavy and slow. It had an all-up weight of 16,000 lb (7,000 kg) and a maximum speed of only 335 mph (540 km/h) at 16,800 ft (5,000 m). Nevertheless this was all that was available at the time, as further production of the otherwise excellent Westland Whirlwind had already been stopped due to problems with production of its Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines.
The Beaufighter found itself coming off the production line at almost exactly the same time as the first British Airborne Intercept (AI) radar sets. With the four 20 mm cannon mounted in the lower fuselage, the nose could accommodate the radar antennas, and the general roominess of the fuselage enabled the AI equipment to be fitted easily. Even loaded to 20,000 lb (9,100 kg) the plane was fast enough to catch German bombers. By early 1941, it was an effective counter to Luftwaffe night raids. The various early models of the Beaufighter soon commenced service overseas, where its ruggedness and reliability soon made the aircraft popular with crews.
A night-fighter Mk VIF was supplied to squadrons in March 1942, equipped with AI Mark VIII radar. As the faster de Havilland Mosquito took over in the night fighter role in mid to late 1942, the heavier Beaufighters made valuable contributions in other areas such as anti-shipping, ground attack and long-range interdiction in every major theatre of operations.
In the Mediterranean, the USAAF's 414th, 415th, 416th and 417th Night Fighter Squadrons received 100 Beaufighters in the summer of 1943, achieving their first victory in July 1943. Through the summer the squadrons conducted both daytime convoy escort and ground-attack operations, but primarily flew defensive interception missions at night. Although the Northrop P-61 Black Widow fighter began to arrive in December 1944, USAAF Beaufighters continued to fly night operations in Italy and France until late in the war.
By the autumn of 1943, the Mosquito was available in enough numbers to replace the Beaufighter as the primary night fighter of the RAF. By the end of the war some 70 pilots serving with RAF units had become aces while flying Beaufighters.
The Beaufighter is listed in the appendix to the novel KG 200 as having been flown by the German secret operations unit KG 200, which tested, evaluated and sometimes clandestinely operated captured enemy aircraft during World War II.1941 saw the development of the Beaufighter Mk.IC long-range heavy fighter. This new variant entered service in May 1941 with a detachment from No. 252 Squadron operating from Malta. The aircraft proved so effective in the Mediterranean against shipping, aircraft and ground targets that Coastal Command became the major user of the Beaufighter, replacing the now obsolete Beaufort and Blenheim.
Coastal Command began to take delivery of the up-rated Mk.VIC in mid 1942. By the end of 1942 Mk VICs were being equipped with torpedo-carrying gear, enabling them to carry the British 18 in (457 mm) or the US 22.5 in (572 mm) torpedo externally. The first successful torpedo attacks by Beaufighters came in April 1943, with No. 254 Squadron sinking two merchant ships off Norway.
The Hercules Mk XVII, developing 1,735 hp (1,294 kW) at 500 ft (150 m), was installed in the Mk VIC airframe to produce the TF Mk.X (Torpedo Fighter), commonly known as the "Torbeau". The Mk X became the main production mark of the Beaufighter. The strike variant of the "Torbeau" was designated the Mk.XIC. Beaufighter TF Xs would make precision attacks on shipping at wave-top height with torpedoes or "60lb" RP-3 rockets. Early models of the Mk Xs carried metric-wavelength ASV (air-to-surface vessel) radar with "herringbone" antennae carried on the nose and outer wings, but this was replaced in late 1943 by the centimetric AI Mark VIII radar housed in a "thimble-nose" radome, enabling all-weather and night attacks.
The North Coates Strike Wing of Coastal Command, based at RAF North Coates on the Lincolnshire coast, developed tactics which combined large formations of Beaufighters using cannon and rockets to suppress flak while the Torbeaus attacked at low level with torpedoes. These tactics were put into practice in mid 1943, and in a 10-month period, 29,762 tons (27,000 tonnes) of shipping were sunk. Tactics were further ad

The Beaufighter is listed in the appendix to the novel KG 200 as having been flown by the German secret operations unit KG 200, which tested, evaluated and sometimes clandestinely operated captured enemy aircraft during World War II.
Coastal Command
1941 saw the development of the Beaufighter Mk.IC long-range heavy fighter.

On Earth As It Is In Heaven: The Cosmic Roots of the Bible

On Earth as it is in Heaven: The Cosmic Roots of the Bible by Michael Ledo is a groundbreaking reinterpretation of the true meaning of the Bible. Ledo asserts that the Bible is actually a combination of historical fact and myths, combined with the history of the heavens and the earth. In clear, lucid prose, Ledo discusses the biblical contradictions and irregularities, its astrological or cosmic intent, and how Judaism and Christianity can both be considered astral-religions. Parts of the gospels of Jesus, he even asserts, were representations of a cosmic myth of the Greco-Roman interpretation of the constellations. Landmark in scope, On Earth as it is in Heaven: The Cosmic Roots of the Bible reveals the Bible as never before.

Ledo: Webster's Timeline History, 1775 - 2007

Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Ledo," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Ledo in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Ledo when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Ledo, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain.
